When we saw the forecast for the 2018 East Liberty Pop Up Mini Art Festival, we were both encouraged and mildly discouraged. The good news was that the rain would stay away, but in its place would be a scorching, sun-drenched summer afternoon. The weather didn’t dissuade East Liberty residents from coming out in droves to the second annual P.R.I.D.E. Pop Up Mini Art Festival at the Kingsley Association. More than 350 families spent the day exploring the art activities designed by artists and educators; dancing in our own version of a Mardi Gras parade; learning about Africana culture through music, dance, and storytelling; and, of course, getting their faces painted like mini T’Challas.
