Listen: Dr. Erin Winkler on How to Talk to Children About Race

Dr. Erin Winkler has been an integral force in helping to dispel the notion that children do not see race or skin color. Her work, in particular the article Children Are Not Colorblind, has served as foundational knowledge for the entire P.R.I.D.E. Program. In September, Dr. Winkler spoke at the Frick Pittsburgh about one of the most difficult questions we face: how exactly do you talk to young children about race? You can find out by listening to the entirety of her speech below.

Dr. Winkler spoke as part of the P.R.I.D.E. Speaker Series, which hosts expert speakers twice each year as part of a community discussion about race, education, and young children. Prior to Dr. Winkler, P.R.I.D.E. hosted acclaimed author and race scholar Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum in November 2017 and University of Pittsburgh School of Education Dean Dr. Valerie Kinloch in Spring 2018.
